About Me
Hello world.
My name is Christopher William Thomson, I’m in my late-thirties and I live in Shetland, a group of islands lying around 100 miles north of mainland Scotland. I work as a web developer for a local company called NB Communication.
My hope is that this website will be an archive of my creative life, something that grows as I do. Much of the content is old and no longer relevant, but that’s the point of an archive.
I’ll get around to doing a proper ‘About Me’ sometime, but I’m in no hurry. In the meantime, here’s some pretentious waffle (there’s a fair bit already on this site) from a previous ‘About Me’ in 2011:
I see everything as language, from the music to maths, web-design to wine. I’m interested in the genesis and mechanics of language and the universe, the path to transcendence, organic growth as a philosophical metaphor for human creativity. I’m interested in death and decay, as a means to understanding life and growth. I sometimes wish that I had a bit more freedom in my life, so I could gleefully follow whichever thread of discovery presents itself in the moment, but my favourite quote “You can choose to be free, but it’s the last choice you’ll ever make” (attributed to Franz Kafka by Terence McKenna) always reminds me of the futility of that daydream.
I hope you find something of use in here, and if not, thanks for stopping by anyway.
